Hong Kong has suffered a torrid year, with the COVID-19 pandemic following half a year of unprecedented political turmoil. The deepening US-China trade and technology conflict has also created massive challenges for an economy that has boomed as China’s main conduit to global markets. A political crisis triggered by Beijing’s decision to introduce a long-overdue security law has compounded the challenges, transforming the once-rambunctious economy into a deeply divided community and putting its role as Asia’s World City in jeopardy.
Mr Dodwell will be giving us a unique insight into the current situation in Hong Kong, the relationship with Beijing and the impact their new security law will have on the International stage and trading relationship including the UK.
