On Saturday we went to Pershore and tried out a new tool for the campaign, a tool so new even veteran campaigner Harriett had never used it before.
It's called Knock, Drop and Collect and it went very well. We go door to door with a leaflet in hand which includes a survey on local issues or whatever is deemed appropriate. In Pershore we had questions to do with anti-social behaviour. When people answered the door we simply introduced ourselves, said we were acting for Harriett, your local MP, and then mentioned the survey about anti-social behaviour. Those were the magic words. For the most part, even those who would normally not want to talk to us because of our being Conservatives, were very keen to fill in a survey about anti-social behaviour. The survey asks a few questions and asks for any further comments and then, crucially, asks constituents for their contact details.
This was our first time of using these surveys but on Saturday's experience they will definitely be worth using again. For those of you who don't like canvassing or who have not done it before and are nervous, this is a nice ice breaker and a way to engage constituents even if they would normally refuse to engage upon hearing which party we represent. Harriett, Seb and Paul were all agreed that it was a successful new approach and worth pursuing in the months leading up to the election.
We hope to be joined by more of you in the coming weeks and months as the election draws nearer.
On that subject, earlier last week we wrote a post asking you to come and join us and invited you all to join the WhatsApp campaign group. Unfortunately this attracted some unwelcome attention from non members and so we have had to take the link down. However if you would like to be added to the WhatsApp campaign chat group please just contact the office and we will add you.
