We have all seen the now famous meeting of Handforth Parish Council and we will all be aware of the magnificent Jackie Weaver who remained resolute and calm under pressure.
To celebrate and encourage good debating skills we are going to be holding a 'Zoom Survivor' series where the mission is to survive a Zoom call with Jackie Weaver purely through the power of debate. But first we will talk about the art of debating and local government with Jackie Weaver as our special guest, joined also by Worcestershire County Association of Local Councils (WCALC)
Attendees may join this event just to observe in the audience, or if you fancy being a contestant you just have to submit your topic for debate/discussion. It could be something fun, like: Is it OK to put baked beans on Weetabix?
If there are many submissions Jackie Weaver will have the FULL AUTHORITY to select those which will be heard on the night.
Contestants will get to present their topic/idea to Jackie Weaver and a panel from local ALCs who will also be at the event to talk about their wonderful work with parish councils and to promote local democracy and getting involved.
We hope the evening will be fun and good natured, but also a great way to demonstrate debating skill, how to express ideas and how to win support for something.
The winner will be the person who Jackie Weaver selects, using whatever criteria she decides, and they will win a t-shirt/mug emblazoned with 'I survived a Zoom call with Jackie Weaver'. Participants who don't survive will get one that says 'I got kicked off a Zoom call by Jackie Weaver'.
As we start to look to the end of lockdowns (we hope) and the end of Zoom events let's end this awful season with an almightily fun Zoom call to end all Zoom calls. In keeping with the style, at the end of the event all attendees will be summarily cut-off from the call.
Have you got what it takes to survive?
You don't have to be a member of the Conservative Party to attend this event, and you don't have to live in the Warwickshire & Worcestershire area. However, we do reserve the right to refuse or withdraw admission for any reason. Although this is a light-hearted event we will not tolerate abusive behaviour, so please be aware.
Think of these as our Standing Orders. Read them, read them and UNDERSTAND THEM!
