COUNTY MOBILE PHONE users will be getting better mobile phone signals this week after two mobile phone operators switched on new 4G masts.
And West Worcestershire MP Harriett Baldwin welcomed the progress which will allow some people to access the internet over their mobile phone at speeds faster than their home or business broadband connection.
People in Pershore and Malvern will be able to access faster mobile downloads speeds as well as getting better phone coverage after the two signal upgrades. A Vodafone mast in Great Malvern and another run by EE in Pershore were switched on last week.
The upgrades are part of a £5 billion national programme by the mobile phone operators to enhance signals in rural areas and each company has committed to delivering more than 90 per cent coverage of the UK by the end of next year.
Harriett has been working with the network operators to identify their plans to bring high-speed mobile broadband to West Worcestershire and further masts are due to be switched on in the coming months.
Harriett commented: “This is great news for local mobile phone users and some people may find that their mobile phone download speeds are now much quicker that their home or office fixed broadband.
“I continue to work with the mobile phone operators to identify how each company is upgrading its network and Ofcom has produced a very useful map to show which companies offer the best coverage.
“Mobile broadband will become more and more important for some people as it is often easier to deliver a phone signal through the airwaves than through cables to people’s homes.
“There are still areas where there isn’t either decent mobile or fixed mobile coverage and these areas remain firmly at the top of my list as I lobby for the best possible services for rural Worcestershire.”
