A journey of discovery around West Worcestershire to be taken over a three-week period starting on Friday, 23rd April and
ending at 12.00 noon on Monday, 17th May 2021
OBJECTIVES and FORMAT
Welcome to The Blue Ribbon Challenge 2021, a fun activity organised by the South Western Branch of the WWCA. Below you should find all you need to know about The Blue Ribbon Challenge.
The objectives are to provide a bit of fun after the horrors of lockdown by encouraging you to get out, without having to wear a mask, mix, or socialise, to see parts of the Constituency which you may not know, whilst contributing to the WWCA “Fighting Fund”.
The Challenge is a sort of ‘treasure hunt’ through West Worcestershire to be undertaken at your leisure in couples/teams of two (with children if applicable).
It will be possible to complete the course mainly by car – or bicycle if energetic enough, or even horse! All destinations to be visited will be accessible by car; it will not be necessary to walk any significant distances.
FORMAT
On the evening of Thursday, 22nd April, the organisers will email a Clue Sheet together with a few simple rules to the Challenge, to all paid up entrants. Armed with these, all that you will need to participate is a good road atlas or map of Worcestershire (OS maps not necessary), a means of transport, a note pad, a writing implement and a camera. On receiving your Clue Sheet, you should print it, then plan your route.
Each clue will direct you to a specific destination within or close to the West Worcestershire Constituency area and ask a question which will lead you to the answer. For example, the clue may direct you to a church and ask when Joe Smith’s wife died. This suggests that the answer might be found on a gravestone.
Points will be given for each destination visited and clue correctly answered. The team scoring the highest number of points will win the first prize and the privilege of being awarded the Blue Ribbon! There will also be prizes for the runners up and the most amusing photograph taken at one of the clue destinations. There may be up to 40 destinations but you will be able to dip in and out over the three weeks and need not feel obliged to visit more than you wish.
