WEST WORESTERSHIRE MP Harriett Baldwin has welcomed confirmation that the Government is relaxing the legal regulations put in place to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
The legal requirement to self-isolate following a positive Covid test will end on Thursday although people will still be advised to remain at home while they feel unwell. Vaccinations are still available for all and a fourth vaccination will be recommended for older and more vulnerable people.
Harriett commented: “This is extremely good news for local people who have made huge sacrifices over the last two years to help prevent the spread of the virus and protect our NHS. The NHS has rolled out a fantastic vaccination programme and new treatments and capabilities have been developed from a standing start.
“I have always felt that we should put our trust in people to make the right decisions for themselves and I have often resisted compulsory measures.
“Covid-19 will circulate for the foreseeable future but we have now built up antibodies and the omicron variant is also much less severe.
“Of course, we should still be on the guard against new variants, and I repeat my view that we should now put much more effort into helping the whole world to get vaccinated.
“The end of restrictions will hopefully mark a new chapter as we get back to doing all the things we have missed out on over the last two years.”
